Jillian’s Family Portrait Session

Modern day portrait sessions are relaxed, gently styled posing and all about every member of your family. Including your fur-babies.

When Jillian and her husband arrived at the studio, I love to get to know all about their dog, and spend time designing their session. Once we have a plan in place, we get started. Having a little design time before we get started keeps us all organized, focused and the big PLUS, it has given their dog a chance to get settled at the studio.

After their session, we did a same day viewing and ordering meeting. Jillian and her husband chose a white portrait box, with x10 matted 8x10 prints.

How to Prepare

Preparing for your studio portrait session is key to ensuring a successful and enjoyable experience. First and foremost, consider grooming your pet before the session. Give them a bath, brush their fur, and trim their nails if needed. Additionally, choose appropriate attire for your pet that compliments their personality and the overall theme of the session. It's also important to bring along any favorite toys or treats that can help to grab their attention and keep them engaged throughout the session. Lastly, make sure your pet gets plenty of rest and exercise beforehand, as this will help them feel relaxed and more comfortable in front of the camera. By following these steps, you are sure to have an amazing studio portrait session and capture beautiful memories of your beloved furry friend.

What to Wear

When it comes to your portrait session at McCormack & Co Photography, it's important to choose clothing that will complement and enhance the overall aesthetic of your pet's photos. Opt for solid, neutral colors that won't distract from your furry friend's adorable features. Earthy tones like soft greens, blues, or browns work well for indoor/outdoor shoots, while neutral whites, grays, or pastels are ideal for indoor sessions. Avoid busy patterns or loud prints as they can take away the focus from your pet. Additionally, choose outfits that make you feel comfortable and confident, ensuring a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Remember, it's your pet who's the star of the show, so let their personality shine by keeping the wardrobe simple yet stylish.

It's important to consider the number of outfit changes you should bring. The ideal number of outfit changes will depend on your preferences and the amount of time allotted for the session. I recommend bringing at least two to three outfits, allowing for a variety of looks and styles. This gives you the opportunity to showcase different sides of your pet's personality and helps capture a range of emotions and expressions. Whether you choose to go for cute and casual or dressy and elegant, having multiple outfit options ensures a well-rounded and diverse collection of photographs. I am more than happy to guide you in selecting the best outfits to compliment your pet's uniqueness and make the most out of your session.

There are a few things you should bring to ensure a successful and enjoyable experience. First and foremost, remember to bring any necessary items for your pet's comfort, such as a favorite toy, blanket, or treats. These familiar objects can help keep your pet calm and cooperative during the session. Additionally, don't forget to bring a leash or harness to ensure the safety of your furry friend when moving around the studio or arriving at the studio location. It's also helpful to bring grooming tools to keep your pet looking their best, including brushes or combs to tame their fur and clean-up supplies for any accidents that may occur. By bringing these items, you'll be well-prepared for capturing timeless and heartwarming photos of your cherished pet.

What’s the best way to start my studio experience?

A question I am sure many people have and I’d like to walk you through those steps:

  1. Fill out the contact form

This is a great way to start the conversation about your portrait session. On the form, briefly mention some of your goals and I will reach out to you via email to setup a quick phone call appointment.

  2. In-person consultation or phone call

Depending upon your portrait session goals, a quick phone call appointment will help to better advise you on the best portrait session for you and your needs. I do offer two different types of portrait session:

    • Custom Session - includes multiple session hours, design and viewing consultations

    • Mini Session - includes 30 minute session time, same day image selection

  3. Portrait session

Preparation and planning is key to every portrait session. If you do a custom session, we can meet at the studio and design your session, from styling, figuring out outfit changes and planning out your priorities. If you are doing a mini session, we can go over ideas via email and a quick phone call to discuss your outfits and priorities.

  4. Design appointment

If you are doing a mini session, I will create a set of proofs for you to look at which usually takes 15-20 mins, and this happens right after your portrait session. For all custom sessions, I will create a beautiful slideshow of the best proofs from your portrait session which can be same day or on a different day.

  5. Artwork collection

On the day you place your order, we will immediately start work on it. Once your images are edited, they go to production. When the products arrive at the studio, they will be quality checked. If everything passes the quality check, I will reach out to you to arrange a print collection pickup appointment. From editing, production to shipping the product back to the studio it can take 6-8 weeks after placing the order.
